07 Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus Blazko shows off his bloody approach to physical therapy • PLATFORM PS4, XBOX ONE, PC • STYLE 1-PLAYER SHOOTER • PUBLISHER BETHESDA • DEVELOPER MACHINE GAMES • RELEASE OCTOBER 27 B J Blazkowicz is a broken man. After success-fully raiding Deathshead’s fortress at the end of the New Order, Wolfenstein’s hero took a grenade for the team. As we meet up with him five months later, he’s still bedridden. But with Nazis infiltrating the Kreisau Circle hideout, he has no choice but to climb into a wheelchair and start spraying the walls with SS blood again. Even with Blazko limited to moving in a wheel-chair, the opening sequence of our first hands-on demo with The New Colossus feels familiar. I take out Nazis in corridor firefights, collect their rem-nant ammo, armor, and health packs, and when the opportunity presents itself, I perform gruesome stealth takedowns. Resistance inventor Set Roth has left BJ some fun microwave traps that turn approaching ene-mies into blood mist, and a short but blissful reunion between BJ and Anya – who is carrying twins – reminds us of the heart MachineGames introduced to this series with the last installment. The narrative momentum increases from a jog to a sprint when we come face to face with familiar villain Frau Engel, who has her heavy-set daughter, Sigrun, at her side. Never one to let an opportunity to shame someone in a public way pass by, Engel rips into her offspring, making fun of her weight and saying she is a disgrace to her bloodline not hot 50 even worth the effort of a slap to the face. After a brief battle on the deck of Eva’s Hammer , the German forces capture Resistance leader Caroline Becker and longtime Blazko sidekick Fergus Reid. Engel offers a proposition: Should “Terror-Billy” turn himself in, she will let these two go free. Despite knowing the odds of Engel keep-ing her word are extremely low, BJ nonetheless turns himself in to a pair of Nazi guards who laugh at his frail condition. The final cutscene begins with Engel belittling her chief rival. “This is what a hero looks like? A useless cripple of a man peeing into a tube?” she chortles.
